There is a sweet smelling fragrance of hope in every New Year. The lure of a fresh start; a clean slate; appeals to of all us that have struggled with mistakes, and life just not going where we intended it to go. To start over. Aye, there’s the rub! A second chance, where perhaps life will listen and obey – and behave! Or…? Soon we realize that the New Year has no special magic, and its dream making abilities are sorely lacking. And suddenly it hits us that the magic lies within us.
The choices we made and the baggage we carry into the New Year plot our course and determines where we are headed in the coming year. But before we can change our destination, we must change how we prepared for our trip. The frightening fact is -we must change! That is the biggest challenge we face. Not only the courage to change, but how? How do we change our nature?
The term New Nature refers to the spiritual transformation that occurs within the inner person when they believe in Christ as Savior. Newness implies renovation and repair. It also implies a fresh existence. Above all it implies hope. I love having hope. one of my favorite Bible verses is 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
As we enter this New Year let us celebrate the gift of life with joy and anticipation. Knowing that Jesus “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” And may the grace of God carry you through every situation that this new year may bring.
Praying each and every one of you will have a joyous and Spirit-filled New Year, and as you delight in the Lord Jesus, that He gives you all the desires of your heart. And that you always know that nothing can separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
May this be your best year ever!
